Name: "A Comic Book Christmas" Rochester Holiday Parade
Date: December 5, 2021
Time: 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM EST
Event Description:

The Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce presented the annual Holiday Parade on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at 3:00 p.m.

Many thanks again to parade Underwriter Service Credit Union and our sponsors and volunteers that are shown below who helped make this year's Holiday Parade a success!

The Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce has been organizing and presenting Rochester’s annual Holiday Parade since the mid-1980’s. The Rochester Holiday Parade is one of the largest holiday parades in the state. This year’s Parade was underwritten by Service Credit Union. Our thanks to them for their generosity to this annual holiday tradition.

The official theme of this year’s parade was “A Comic Book Christmas”. The parade began at the triangle by the R.W. Creteau Regional Technology Center, traveled south on Wakefield Street, turned onto Union Street and then turned south on North Main Street and proceeded through South Main Street, disbanding around the Rochester Commons.

Nearly 60 entries participated in this year’s parade.

Many entries featured superheroes to go along with the theme. There were many decorated mobile units. First, Second and Third Place trophies are awarded each year in each of the three divisions and a “Best of Parade” trophy is also awarded. Floats are judged on creativity, craftsmanship, theme and overall appearance.

There were 3 groups providing entertainment in the parade this year, including the Spaulding High School Red Raider Marching Band, Wells High School Band from Wells, Maine, and the Claddagh Mhor Pipe Band.

Various marching groups and entertainment are invited to participate in the parade each year. Their participation is sponsored by local businesses to cover the cost of having these groups participate which costs several thousand dollars as parades are fund raisers to assist in defraying the costs of their equipment and uniforms.

The parade each year also includes marching units from several youth groups and organizations, mobile, and equestrian units, as well as VIP’s including City elected officials and representatives from the Rochester Police and Fire Departments. This year’s Grand Marshals were the 2021 Business of the Year—The Rochester Voice, the 2021 Non-Profit of the Year—Monarch School of New England, and our 2021 Citizens of the Year—Alicia Frye and Jeanne Varney Grover. And of course, everyone’s favorite - Santa Claus joined us at the end of the parade.
