SOS Recovery Community Organization is pleased to announce that it has received a $5,000 donation from Kennebunk Savings’ Spotlight Fund in support of its recovery coaching program.
“We are grateful to have been selected as one of the recipients of Kennebunk Savings’ Spotlight Fund, said John Burns, director of SOS Recovery Community Organization. “Kennebunk Savings’ commitment to make a meaningful difference in the area of difference in the area of Recovery Supports is greatly appreciated and will help us build our recovery coach capacity.”
“As a mutual organization we’re proud of our commitment to our shared community, a commitment which includes contributing 10 % of our annual earnings to area nonprofit organizations through our Community Promises Program,” Bradford C. Paige, president and CEO of Kennebunk Savings stated in a letter to Burns. “Each year, a portion of our community Promise commitment is directed to the Spotlight Fund, with the intention of using the funds to proactively make a meaningful difference to specific issues that are impacting our communities”
“This year’s Spotlight fund is focused on the opioid crisis in Maine and New Hampshire with an emphasis on two facets of this very complex issue: Recovery Supports and Substance Use Disorder Prevention,” Paige continued in the letter. “As part of that commitment, we are proud to partner with SOS Recovery by presenting you with a check for $5,000 for your recovery coaching program.”
In addition to providing Recovery Coach Academy training two to three times a year, SOS also provides Recovery Coach services through its Dover and Rochester SOS Recovery Community Centers.

According to Burns, SOS currently has approximately 19 peer recovery coaches who are providing peer recovery coach services to more than 70 individuals.
“Recovery Coaches are peers in recovery and allies of the recovery community who help to remove barriers and obstacles to recovery and serve as personal guides and mentors for people seeking or already in recovery,” said Burns. “Recovery Coach Academy is a training program designed for those interested in becoming actively involved in service as a recovery coach and provides a comprehensive overview of the role purpose and tasks of a recovery coach.”
SOS RCO operates two Recovery Community Centers, one located at 4 Broadway in Dover and the other located at 63 S. Main in Rochester. Each center offers a variety of programs, events and services for multiple pathways to recovery including Peer Recovery Coaches, Telephone Recovery Supports, Meetings and special programs ranging from Mindful Art in Recovery and Yoga to Indoor Rock Climbing at Indoor Ascent in Dover and monthly bowling at Dover Bowl.
