As part of its commitment to support affordable housing and the well-being of neighborhoods in the communities where People’s United Bank operates, the People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank, announced today that it has awarded a $7,000 grant to the Housing Partnership in Portsmouth.

The Housing Partnership provides quality, affordable housing for low- and moderate-income residents of the Greater Seacoast Region of New Hampshire and southern Maine. The grant from People’s United Community Foundation will support its Homeward Bound Program, a free, HUD-certified homebuyer education initiative, which helps prepare participants for successful homeownership through financial education and counseling.

“For the fourth consecutive year, People’s United Community Foundation has chosen to recognize our efforts to promote homeownership in the Seacoast Region,” said Marty Chapman, Executive Director of Housing Partnership. “We’re deeply grateful for this support and for our continued association with People’s United Bank and its charitable foundation.”

“The Homeward Bound Program is an essential component to the home-buying process for New Hampshire residents, as it teaches the financial skills that are necessary for establishing economic stability and long-term homeownership success,” said Dianne Mercier, Officer of People’s United Community Foundation and New Hampshire President for People’s United Bank. “We are proud to strengthen families and communities through our support of this important program.”

Established in 2007, People’s United Community Foundation was formed to help support programs and activities that enhance the quality of life for citizens in the communities that People’s United Bank serves. People’s United Bank, founded in 1842 and serving customers from New York to Maine through a network of more than 400 branches, is the largest independent bank headquartered in New England. The Foundation places special emphasis on programs designed to promote economic self-sufficiency, education and improved conditions for low-income families and neighborhoods. The funding priorities of the Foundation include community development, youth development, and affordable housing.
