Join SASS for breakfast and a live presentation of its’ Personal Body Safety Puppet Show on April 30th

With one of the largest and most comprehensive violence prevention education programs in the State of New Hampshire, Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS) invites the community to experience a live presentation of its’ Safe Kids Strong Teens classroom program during the 3rd Annual Kids Are Our Business Breakfast on Wednesday, April 30th from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Portsmouth Country Club.

As statistics show that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday, the agency is determined to increase its Safe Kids Strong Teens presentations in schools throughout the Seacoast region to prevent childhood sexual victimization. SASS Violence Prevention Educator, Erica Skoglund said, “Adult survivors of child sexual abuse tell us that if they had seen a program like ours when they were younger things might have been very different for them.”

Each year the Education team at SASS, re-develops Safe Kids Strong Teens; combining best practices and often times including puppets to engage children in the classroom. Our puppet stories change year after year to keep them funny, engaging and relevant to the students. The children learn our personal body safety rules and then use them to help their new puppet friends. There is nothing more powerful than sitting in front of a classroom full of 2nd graders and hearing them yelling at the puppets ‘it's never too late to tell!’ and they believe it and understand it.” said Erica.

Kids Are Our Business Breakfast will also feature guest speaker, Jane Stapleton, Co-Director of Prevention Innovations at UNH and one of the founding members of the Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention Program (SHARPP) at UNH.  An activist, policy marker, service provider and much more, Jane’s bystander intervention programs were also recently recognized in The New York Times.

Hosted at the Portsmouth Country Club at 80 Country Club Ln in Greenland, NH, the cost to attend this event is $10.00 and includes a full breakfast. To purchase tickets go to www.sassnh.org or call SASS at 603.436.4107.
