Holy Rosary Credit Union staff, including President & CEO Brian Hughes, recently participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge, a social media driven fundraising phenomenon that has been creating awareness for ALS across the country.

At HRCU’s main office at 133 Brock Street, 28 staff members answered the challenge, dumping buckets of cold water and ice over their heads in the name of spreading awareness for ALS.  HRCU and their staff also made a donation to the ALS Association.

“It was a fun activity for a great cause,” said Hughes, who helped coordinate the fundraiser along with Assistant Vice President of Financial Services, Kristy Methot.  “I am so proud of the HRCU team for getting involved in supporting the fundraiser.  They are always up to the challenge, ice bucket or otherwise.”

Hughes organized the event after being challenged by Profile Bank, whose staff took on the challenge just days earlier.  After his Ice Bucket Challenge, Hughes nominated those at Service Credit Union, Northeast Credit Union, Bernier Insurance, and Northeast Planning Associates to follow suit.

“It’s great to see so many local business and organizations step up and take the Ice Bucket Challenge to create awareness for ALS,” added Hughes.

Since July, the ALS Association has raised nearly $80 million from 1.7 million Ice Bucket Challenge participants.  ALS, often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” is a neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.  Over 30,000 Americans suffer from the disease that has no known cure.
